Miss Kirsty

Miss Kirsty’s first memory is of plies and points, smiles and sequins, layouts and laughs. As a youngster Miss Kirsty was forever putting on ‘Lounge Room Spectaculars’, twirling through shopping centres, and so her dancing career was born.

Since her first ballet class at the age of three Miss Kirsty has been involved in all facets of the Performing Arts including dance, drama & singing. She has been a beginner student, an advanced senior, an assistant teacher, a commercial dancer, a teacher and now a studio owner. Since completing her training at ED5 International (Certificate IV in the Performing Arts) Miss Kirsty has gone on to work with some of Australia’s leading Choreographers & Event producers on stage productions, commercials and film clips.

With her 15 years of teaching experience, qualifications (C.B.A.A & ATCL), and vast commercial experience behind her, Miss Kirsty now believes in creating a positive and nurturing studio environment where she can share her passion for dance with her students.

MISS AMANDA

Miss Amanda is a specialist performing arts teacher with a particular passion for dance. Miss Amanda has studied dance for over 20 years - as well as both drama and voice - and has enjoyed teaching these disciplines for over a decade.

Studying Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Classical Ballet and Musical Performance privately, she completed her Cecchetti Society Ballet exams with Honours at St Michael’s Collegiate School of Performing Arts before following her dream to Sydney where she was awarded a combined Bachelors Degree in Dance and Drama Education from the University of New South Wales. Amanda is currently teaching as a Dance and Drama Specialist Teacher at The Scots College as well as at DANCE1!

Amanda’s experience in both primary and secondary schools in NSW and Tasmania has seen her involved with major events such as The Rock Eisteddfod Challenge, School Spectacular and countless concert performances! Similarly, her choreographic works have been performed at The Theatre Royal (TAS), Io Myers, NIDA Parade and Glen St. Theatres in NSW amongst others.

Having performed extensively throughout her career, Amanda’s sole focus is now creating meaningful experiences for her students in a safe and fun environments, supporting the development of kinesthetic awareness and technical skill, whilst encouraging a love of Dance!

MISS SOPHIE

Miss Sophie is the resident Musical Performance teacher at DANCE1. Her experience spans over 20 years, with a background in singing, dancing and acting. Her passion for performing and the arts stemmed from her dancing lessons at Dance1 (then Gordon Ballet and Dance Academy).

Having studied classical singing, acting and various styles of dance from a young age, Miss Sophie completed her AMEB singing and musicianship exams and before being accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) to complete a Certificate in Music Theatre. Sophie then obtained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Sydney with majors in French, Italian and Performance Studies.

Sophie is currently teaching vocal technique and theatre skills in the Senior DANCE1 GLEE Club, while simultaneously working as an account manager in a public relations agency. She thrives from seeing the success of her DANCE1 students on stage, as they master the skill of combining singing, dancing, and playing a character.

MISS MORGAN

Miss Morgan developed her love of dance in Kindergarten, when she began training at Dance1. Over the years she has satiated her passion for dance by participating in eisteddfods, C.B.A.A. examinations and every dance style on offer! At school, she combined her talent for dance with singing and drama as she became involved in school musicals and performance events. Now, Miss Morgan is involved in the University of Sydney Dance Society and enjoys taking classes at Sydney Dance Company for fun.

Working with Dance1 has been a way for her to give back to students some of the joy and excitement that dancing fills her with and she looks forward to passing on her training and technique to more students in the future!

MISS MEL

Miss Mel started off her 12 years of training with DANCE1 at the age of 7, where she fell in love with the buzz of performing in wonderful costumes at the end of year concerts. Kick starting her passion for dance; she then went on to be a part of performances such as School Spectacular and Glen St Theatre. In 2008, she was given the amazing opportunity to refine her skills and travel through New York City and LA to dance with many renowned choreographers in locations such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Broadway Dance Centre, Disneyland and Radio City for the Rockette experience; learning from a few of the Rockette’s themselves!

Since completing her HSC in Dance, Miss Mel has now been accepted to study full time at the prestigious ED5 International performing arts school! This along with experience in Jazz, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Broadway and Hip Hop, has enabled Miss Mel to pass on her passion for dance and help encourage the students to be the best that they can be.

MISS CHONNIE

Miss Chonnie has been dancing since the tender age of three and has been a member of the DANCE1 family for almost 5 times that. Firstly as a student and then as a teacher, Miss Chonnie has been educated in all forms of dance including jazz, ballet, modern, contemporary and hip hop.

Throughout her dancing years Miss Chon has performed in many TV Commercials, toured and performed throughout the USA, and has been fortunate enough to be involved in many special events including the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Since the age of seven she competed in many NSW eisteddfods, and in her later years, was accepted to study Dance and Education at the University of NSW.

Miss Chonnie has now been teaching for over ten years and still strives to make every dancers experience highly rewarding and full of fun!

MISS LAW

Miss Law’s early training was in Sydney under the RAD system. From there she won a scholarship to The Royal Ballet School in London, followed by a professional career dancing with a ballet company in Germany.

On returning to Australia she completed her RAD Teaching Diploma (Honours) Jean has also written the Major 1 and Major 2 classical ballet syllabus for Australian Dance Vision which has a VETAB accreditation in Dance Performance Studies. She has also been an examiner for Australian Dance Vision.

With over 20 years of teaching experience Jean has developed a programme designed for pre school children, giving young dancers a wonderful introduction to the world of music and dance.

ASSISTANT TEACHERS

DANCE1 believes in encouraging and developing young students to further their dance training. As a result the DANCE1 Teacher Training program was established.

This is a 3 year training program which aims to educate and assess students in all aspects of the class room including lesson plan & preparation, choreography & music selection, teaching principles & philosophies, risk & injury management and other issues that relate specifically to working with children.
