What is C.B.A.A. Medal Day? 

 

The C.B.A.A. Medal Day (or more well-known as Mrs Fisher Day) is not your typical exam experience. It allows our students to perform in an ‘exam setting’ but with encouragement and support from their teachers every step of the way.

Why participate?​

​

At DANCE1, we follow the C.B.A.A. dance syllabus, a program designed with enjoyment as the primary focus.

​

Each syllabus level is carefully structured to reflect year-on-year improvements in ability, skill, and technical knowledge, giving every dancer a clear sense of progress and achievement. Exams are also an important stepping stone for dancers who wish to take their passion further and be involved in the DanceStep Program. These student teachers are required to complete their examinations as part of their training.

And of course - the medals! Awarded as a mark of hard work and achievement, these shiny keepsakes are worn with enormous pride on leotards and jackets long after exam day!

** SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY  ** 

​

For our dancers in Kindy - Year 6 who participate in one or more styles at the C.B.A.A. Medal Day will also be given the opportunity to perform a special role at the DANCE1 Concert with our Senior dancers!

 

Opening Number... or maybe the Finale in 2026, but a very special privilege for both Juniors and Seniors!

Extra lessons​

 

To ensure our performers are ‘exam-ready’, extra rehearsal classes do need to be scheduled in the lead up to Medal Day weekend. ​

​

Most classes have already been working on their exam syllabus throughout the term in preparation for the Mid-Year Showcase so these extra sessions are all about refinement. Rehearsals will focus on polishing technique, presentation, memory retention, and exam etiquette.

​

Exam rehearsal sessions run over four lessons, with the Mid-Year Showcase counting as our final performance opportunity. After Showcase the night before Medal Day, dancers will feel truly ready to dance come the Saturday. 

​

These take place on Friday afternoons for 5 weeks on: 

* Friday 15th May 

* Friday 22nd May 

* Friday 29th May 

* Friday 5th June 

* Friday 12th June - final practice will be the Mid-Year Showcase performance for which Meday Day participants are automatically registered.

Rehearsal Schedule - Friday afternoons 

​​

Rehearsals will take place at the LUC location and with multiple rooms running, pick-up and drop-off will be to the LUC Studio and teachers will escort dancers into their rehearsal room.

​​PLEASE NOTE: 

​

* All students wishing to participate must sit their Jazz exam first, before any other styles are considered. 

​

* Students in Year 7 & above may have the option to complete other styles, however a minimum of 4 students participating is required in that particular style.

Cost

​

Kindy - Year 6 Exams:  30-45 minute class per style

Year 7 & above Exams:  1 hour class per style 

​

Dancers must be enrolled into a particular style in 2026 in order to participate in a particular exam style. 

 

Classes will begin Week 4 of Term 2 (week beginning from Monday 11th May).

Medal Day​

​

The actual medal day for all our participants will take place on Saturday 13th June (Week 8 of Term 2). Dancers will be required for approximately 1 hour (per style) with the actual exam taking 20-30 minutes. Please be aware that we TRY to structure the day to accommodate weekend activities.

 

The cost per exam is $40 ($65 for a Major Grade applicable to Senior students only) and this fee includes the exam session, report card, glossy certificate and a special medal for the students to wear

on their jumpers/leotards.
